Lincoln’s 3rd Birthday!

Lincoln turns 3!! As cliche as it sounds, time is flying by and this toddler phase is certainly not for the weak. Haha. But now we will be in the process of potty training. If anyone has tips, I would love to hear it!

Although it is truly chaos with a toddler now, but it’s also been so fun. Lincoln is developing his own personality and communicating with us. The pretend play is definitely my favorite. It’s so fun to see him discover who he is, his likes/dislikes and to see him become aware of his surroundings and kind of form a memory. Like he remembers the slides are at the park and going outside might mean going to the playground. So I’ve learned to not mention the word outside if I don’t really mean it. Lol. Lincoln is convincing and persistent and sometimes I will give in. Little things like going to the park or going down the slide with him make him the happiest and that’s the ultimate goal.

Anyway, just like last year, we had a birthday photoshoot for Lincoln to document this milestone. Very simple, neutral theme again, but this time, we added some balloons which is actually out of my comfort zone for a photoshoot session (I know. So crazy, right?)

I used the same photographer from last year. Her name is Carol Jayne. Highly recommend! I mentioned last year that I am into the photography world, but I don’t feel confident enough for indoor studio sessions and that is what I want for Lincoln’s birthday shoot. However, I am making it a goal to do Lincoln’s next photoshoot myself next year! So that will hopefully be exciting! Or maybe I could even do 1 shoot myself and another session with a professional, because I do genuinely love Carol. She is very talented and delivers exactly what I’m looking for. But I also want to keep improving my work so we will see.

I was not too sure on the outfit picks this time around. Very indecisive unlike last year, but it came out so cute and I’m very happy with the choices. I don’t usually have Lincoln wear jeans on a daily basis so it seemed appropriate to include as a special occasion and then his green pants with the green couch just made that pick even better. Not intentional btw. I had no clue there would be this green couch, but it worked out so well. It had this sophisticated look to it which is the goal hence why I try to dress him somewhat dressy. This sounds like I’m a little type A but I see it as Lincoln won’t let me dress him up forever so I’m taking advantage.

Lincoln had so much fun this time around! It took some convincing last year, but this time it was completely different in the best way. He was smiling and laughing and dancing around. Even made some funny facial expressions for us especially with his tongue out. Lol. He truly makes me laugh. We didn’t even need to try to entertain him ourselves. Like last year, I brought bubbles, a favorite stuffed animal. Even used my phone to show him his favorite videos. I’m so impressed with how quick and easy this session turned out to be. Full blown transformation.

I mentioned last year that I feel immense pressure to throw this big birthday party so I just don’t. I still stand by that decision but also as Lincoln gets older, if he would like a party, I will do my best to put it all together for him. I did add the decor around the house. This year I went with his love for all things construction vehicles.

It was bittersweet taking down the previous decor, but this one is just as cute. I like to keep the banners up all year until his next birthday. A little tradition has begun and of course we treated him to his favorite, chocolate chip cookies. On the day of his birthday, we took him to the fair and he loved seeing all the animals and the firetruck. For gifts, my parents got him this garbage truck. It makes real garbage truck sounds and even came with trash cans. Ryan’s parents gave him an excavator (which I had no idea what that was called until now. Props of being a boy mom, right?) But the excavator is also pretty cool. It lights up and makes sounds. He still loves playing with them both as much as when he got it, which is great, because there are so many toys and most of them don’t get used after a few uses. Which is normal but still we love when the toys are being loved for a little bit longer!

In honor of Lincoln turning 3, these are some of his favorite things

Construction vehicles

Firetrucks

Cars

Throwing/catching balls

The park

Grocery shopping (Lol he will ask to go often)

Some highlights from this month:

His very first official haircut

His firetruck costume

His check-up with the doctor

This little list will be fun to look back on every year!
