Traveling tips with a toddler

I wanted to share a few tips that I have found to be helpful while traveling with a toddler! This kind of info is super helpful for me too. I will start researching travel tips and gear/products pretty early on to get the most out of an easier traveling experience.

If I’m being honest, even after all this prep, I was exhausted. Who knew traveling with a toddler would be so tiring? Haha. In the end, it’s all worth it. and now I have some cute pics and videos to share with Lincoln when he’s older. So take the trip!! Even if you need some extra days to recover because I sure did.

Let’s get started before I ramble on but yes take that trip!

1. Separate lists- And I do mean multiple lists. I know it might be excessive, but I fully believe that this step is what assured me that I had everything.

1 list for Lincoln. 1 for me. A shopping list. A list of things we need but we already have. A list of what to restock in the diaper bag.

2. Overpack- Contemplated on whether to include this or not, but I think that packing some extra items is helpful. For example, the diapers, a few bottles/sippy cups, tons of pajamas, extra outfits, a couple pairs of shoes (I think I packed 5 ranging from sneakers to sandals to watershoes) Also depends on where you are going and for how long.

Not kidding about the shoes. Haha

3. Packing cubes- To go along with the last tip. My mom suggested these packing cubes and also used some on our trip to Florida. I will link the ones we used on Amazon! But these are super helpful to save space in your suitcase or even your carry on bag

4. Takeout- Probably my favorite tip. As someone who loves to eat out, I realize that that’s not always possible with kiddos. I might be bias, but I think Lincoln does very well in restaurants (for now at least) but he is a very picky eater. So I have to keep in mind to bring something that he will like in case he doesn’t try much of our food. As you can tell, I’m kind of struggling with the pickiest toddler ever. Lol. But I will say that bringing takeout makes it for a slightly relaxing evening especially if you’ve been out and about all day or in this case chasing around a toddler. So it’s a win-win. Good thing he is cute though

5. Bring the stroller- I feel like this is essential even if you’re not sure how often you’ll be using the stroller. For example in Florida we used it almost every day. In Vermont, we used it maybe twice. Also depends on where you’re going. At the zoo, we used it but Lincoln felt more inclined to walk around. This tip depends on your situation but I think it’s good to bring with you just in case you do need it. I will link the ones we use!

6. Follow your daily routine- Now this one is tough. I’ve heard so many times that kids thrive with a routine. I believe it so that’s why I include it here. But the reality is that it’s tough to follow sometimes while on vaca. For example, if we’re out during the day we have to make it a goal that we will stop at this time for Lincoln’s nap or he will not nap and that usually leads to a cranky Lincoln later on.

Milk and snuggles before bed of course

7. Hands free purse- On our last trip to florida, I decided to bring a purse. I had a Fanny pack (I know, basic) but truly a game changer if you’re wanting to be hands free. After Lincoln was born, I relied on the diaper bag for my essentials too and even though I love the style/organization of the diaper bag, I realized how much I love having my own purse as well

Hands free to take pictures while carrying so many bags

8. Activities/toys for car ride or plane- a must for keeping a toddler from getting bored. I will link some of things we got him!

9. Disinfecting wipes + hand sanitizer- Probably the most obvious tip but I had to include especially after covid and everything. I’m also realizing that toddlers get their hands on literally everything so now it’s truly a must essential. Lol

Well that’s everything! Let me know your traveling tips/must haves with a toddler! I’m sure there’s plenty more that I might’ve missed! Until next time
