Lake Day

Today’s day calls for a peaceful getaway trip. Lake winnipesaukee doesn’t exactly scream exciting but it’s all we’ve got in the middle of a pandemic. About 2 hours from my house and it’s never smooth sailing for my family. We walked the whole pier to find out that there was this line that we weren’t going to wait in. There’s a limit to how many groups of people can lay out so it’s expected to wait. But that didn’t cross our minds since it was a random day in the week. Uh hello that place is probably packed every day.

So I was hungry. Anyone who knows me knows that I could eat anywhere at anytime. So within 15 minutes of driving back, who was quick to say that she was hungry even though we just left the pier full of food. That would be my 23 year old ass. So we stopped at this ice cream shop that also sold food kinda like Hayward’s. I forgot the name of it which is why I made the comparison. Clearly I’m such big help. Needless to say, they had some good food. Burgers and fries always hit the spot.

So we saw the most beautiful dog right after we ordered. He was a German Shepard aka my brothers dream dog. Always think of him when I see one hence why I got his attention quickly. Let’s be real though, the dogs owner was very good looking and that’s what caught my attention. Did I make a comment about that though? Hell no. My brother would’ve given me his version of my eye roll. Which doesn’t make sense considering he can’t wait for the day that I get marry and move out. I guess his facial speaks louder than his words.

On the road again and I was very satisfied to have food in me. So my mom’s childhood spot, ellacoya state park. We drove to this one, but you have to make a reservation. Thank you corona. The universe was on our freakin side tho. This older looking guy watching the entrance told us to stop as we were heading out and let us know that one family just left so we could stay without the reservation. The odds of that happening is almost impossible considering we’re in the middle of a pandemic. To say we got lucky was an understatement.

The water was freezing and if I’m being honest, I’m not usually eager to get a swim in. If we owned one of those small boats, then definitely. You know the ones that older couples own or the ones that college kids party on. I don’t know why that would make a difference but don’t be surprised when I convince my future husband to get us a boat. Call me weird though. Like who doesn’t want to get a swim in. Apparently my only concerns are to capture memories and get my tan on. However, I have younger siblings so part of me feels like I can’t just lay out because that’s not what they would want to do. So yes, I got in the water. It was really fun and I’m glad that they are just as persistent as me.

So I mentioned my “only concerns.” That doesn’t mean that I don’t spend time with my family. I just always get wrapped up in my own thing. Moments spent with my family are the best though. Right before I took a swim, I had my brother take this photo for me. You know those hand holding couple pictures where the girl is in front facing away from the camera? I used to see those all the time on Instagram but yea so we recreated our own and I actually love it. Who needs a boyfriend when you have a brother?

My sister is actually a mermaid. The lake is pretty shallow but she is always the first to completely submerge herself in the water. Regardless of how cold it might be. The 3 of us took a group photo in the water. My brother was in the middle and he looks like he could be our older brother just from how tall he is. He will be over 6 feet tall before he finishes high school which still amazes me. There was this empty life guard chair and even though there’s staff walking around the park, the chair was empty. So my brother pretended to be the lifeguard for .5 seconds. He is pretty funny like he wants to be a little rebellious but he refuses to get caught.

After our swim, I was in a photo shoot mood. But it was more like self timer mode. Now I wouldn’t judge, it’s hard not being the photogenic ones in the family. Pretty sure we know who feels that spot for us. Example. Anyway my thought process was like if you want something done, gotta do it yourself. Very true but if it’s hard trying to be some amateur photographer such as myself, you can imagine how difficult it is to capture yourself. Got some decent shots so I’m pretty pleased with it. Only took a hundred shots. You should see my camera roll.

I will say that my brother and personal photo bomber will never not miss a shot. Funny because some shots he photo bombed were some of my favorites. The real irony is that my favorite shot of myself is one that my mom took. No need for self timer there. Although the effort on my part wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Speaking of my mom, I’m really appreciating how much closer we’ve gotten. I’m at the age where she can be my friend and we can talk about anything. It was never like that but I guess that means your girl has grown. But anyway her and I were talking about how peaceful it was over there. And so my mom and I have blueprints in our heads about our dream family house that we discuss all the time but this time we were both like we should live by the lake. Her and I have hgtv in our veins. I guess she is where I get my creativity from.

Today’s events did not go exactly as planned but it was one of the best days of summer. And the best part was that I felt genuinely happy. You know what that might be a lie because we got ice cream after and I’ve been on an ice cream kick. So it’s gotta be the ice cream making me all happy. I think I’m funny. Feel free to not laugh.

Here’s to more family adventures
